ESPN host urges boycott of Mayweather-Pacquiao fight

While a lot of TV shows and hosts promote Mayweather-Pacquiao fight on May 2, ESPN's Keith Olbermann is calling for a boycott of the most awaited showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., citing the American's history of domestic abuse.

Keith Olbermann urges boycott of Mayweather-Pacquiao

On his show, Olbermann stressed that it was "time to draw the line," and discussed both the upcoming NFL Draft and the Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown.

Olbermann showed dismay for top NFL prospect Jameis Winston, who is facing a host of off-field issues yet may likely become the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

He was even more scornful of Mayweather, who has a long and well-documented history of violence against women.

Olbermann referred to a report from Outside the Lines that detailed Mayweather's various arrests on domestic violence, and also noted that the American boxer's responses to questions about these issues have been mostly glib.

"At the end of the day, only God can judge us," Mayweather answered John Barr when asked about his history of domestic abuse.

"You will support this excuse for a man?" Olbermann asks. "You will help him continue to behave as if his conduct is acceptable in the 21st century, or the 20th, or the 19th? I won't."

Olbermann said he "regret(s) this deeply," partly because he has met Manny Pacquiao. "A quieter, more respectful, more dignified boxer, I've never encountered. May he make millions more," he said.

"But I will not give Floyd Mayweather a dime," he stressed.

"He should have been banned for life by his sport two or five or ten years ago. I will not promote,, watch, or report on Mayweather's fight. I will boycott it, and I urge you to as well," he declared.

The May 2 bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao, which will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, is expected to be the richest fight in the history of the sport.
